Men’s Valentine’s Day gift nightmare

February 5th, 2010

alValentine’s Day is often thought of as the holiday for romance, which usually implies both a male and a female.  However, to most it is a woman’s romantic day, which is why panic usually starts to strike most guys around February as they realize they are running out of time to surprise their significant others.

However, all it not lost because there are a few tips that can help a procrastinator salvage the day starting with learning about how to truly get a woman the gift she wants.  The best way to start is to consider the personality of the woman that you are shopping for.  For example, a woman that likes to collect keepsakes, photographs, and identifies a song as ‘your song’ is going to be the kind that wants a romantic Valentine’s Day celebration.

The perfect gift for her will usually follow traditional lines such as flowers at work, a romantic dinner at a place you do not usually dine for the evening, and some chocolates and wine at home by the fire to seal the deal.

On the other hand, a woman that is more active and outgoing will demand a different train of thought to complete her weekend.  This type of woman is the one that likes to ski, workout and spend time outside hiking.

For her a date at a rock climbing gym or out on the town at a dance club may be a better fit.  This does not mean that she does not still want dinner, but less traditional and more health orientated may be a better fit.

Less than a month to Valentines

January 26th, 2010

vThere is far less than a month left until February 14th which means that it is once again time to start thinking about what gifts your special someone will be getting this Valentine’s Day.

Regardless of whether you love the frenzy surrounding this special day or hate it, Valentine’s Day is still a great time to show someone just how much you care by surprising them with something they will love.

The best Valentine’s Day gifts are fun and creative with a lot of thought behind them so that your loved one knows their gift came from the heart.  If you are having trouble figuring out what you should get, here are a few ideas that might just inspire you.

For the most part, the day for lovers has been typically slanted towards females with males getting stuck with the responsibility of showing their other half that they love them.  Despite what a lady says or does, they still secretly want to see some sign that you appreciate them.

This does not mean that you need to spend a large amount of money (unless of course you have already missed your anniversary and her birthday) but it does mean that you should think hard about what she will really want and get her the appropriate gift.

Some of the most common gifts that you can always resort to as a back-up if all else fails, or as simple supporting gifts leading up to the big surprise are a hallmark card, red rose, jewellery, a teddy bear, chocolates, or a gift basket.

Debenhams offers divorce gift list

January 19th, 2010

dhThe high street retailer Debenhams launched a new product line referred to as the first ‘divorce gift list’ in the UK for couples that plan on celebrating their impending divorce.

The service which started today follows the trend of recent congratulation greeting cards and parties for those who have been granted a divorce popularized by celebrities such as Heather Mills and Jordan.

While it may not seem that divorce should be a cause for celebration, it is possible that with divorce on the rise it could become the new equivalent for the more conventional wedding list.

This is due to the fact that now it is very common for couples to live together before marriage, which means they tend to already have the basic goods that wedding lists were created to provide.

On the other hand, divorce forces partners to split their marital possessions or for one partner to leave the home entirely which means they now have to fill a new house will all of the basics.

High on the list for divorcee gifts are expected to be items such as computer games, plasma screen TVs, and non-iron shirts to help them on their way to recovery and get reacquainted with the single life.

Commonly across the UK the first day after Christmas holiday is thought to be the main time that couples decide to leave each other, which is also the period when the largest amount of divorce petitions are filed.

Head of Retail Services for Debenhams, Peter Moore, stated that divorce is a costly time for most people and registering for a Divorce Gift List gives family and friends a chance to help out the new divorcee.
